'Anatomy of a Stumble' will be a wordless performance that starts from one of the most classic gestures of the slapstick genre: stumbling.

Two clowns enter an empty stage with a very long roll of white ballet flooring that seems too large for the available space. But you can trust that—that is clowns for you—they will come up with a solution. For the clown, no problem is too big or too insignificant. Things that go wrong or that fail to meet the expectations of modern life—that is what the realm of the clown is all about. Because the dimensions and shape of the floor are by definition (too) awkward, the performance fits impossibly—and therefore perfectly—in the theater hall and on location. Stumbling becomes inevitable.

'Anatomy of a Stumble' aims to expose the potential of the stumble. Together with fellow performer Geert Belpaeme, Salomé Mooij questions what makes failed physical actions so fundamental. Drawing on the rules of slapstick, they explore how staged failure can surprise, move, and touch. A journey of discovery unfolds to a tight, musical cadence. With 'Anatomy of a Stumble', Salomé offers a counterweight to a world that often revolves around efficiency and performance. The performance reminds us of the value of imperfection, failure, vulnerability, resilience, falling, and getting back up.
