The idea for the performance originated during the Clown College creative process at De Spil in Roeselare. Karen Claessens, together with seven circus artists, drew inspiration from the circus past and created a new clown act and clown character: 'La Karen'.

Taking this clown act and character as a starting point, Karen is creating a new performance – 'La Karen and the Petra Pan Syndrome'!

Just like Peter Pan, La Karen wants to keep playing like a child. In psychology, the Peter Pan syndrome refers to men who refuse to grow up, while the Wendy syndrome symbolizes the responsible, empathetic, and caring woman or mother who often sacrifices herself. But what happens when that Wendy wants to be Peter Pan too? How do these two opposites unite? And how can the desire to remain a child be reconciled with an aging body experiencing menopausal issues?

During this first residency period at Dommelhof, Karen will work on elements she wishes to use in the new creation: sound painting, magic/mentalism, object manipulation, clowning, and modern dance. During this residency, she will collaborate with Christian Gmunder as artistic coach and Bert Bernaerts for the musical arrangements.
