As a counterpart to The Repro Project where man is in dependence with his created machines, Manchines is inspired by the ever-increasing communication with his environment through technology/digital forms of communication. In this, Camiel searches for boundaries of intimacy. Especially now, at a time when we are forced by Covid-19 to avoid personal contact, he fears an alienation of intimate physical connection between people.
In Manchines, Camiel challenges himself to get off the floor and takes the role of director/choreographer. He collaborates with artists from different backgrounds and explores the connection between his artistic vision and handwriting, and whether they are transferable to the physicality of others. During his residency at Dommelhof, he invites dance collective MAMM to collaborate in his research.
